Avoid the tentacles otherwise, along with any sweep attacks and fountains of poison that the kayran spews, then move in close and hack away at a trapped tentacle until you sever it from the main body. The kayran will slam them down onto the ground and you can trap the tentacles there using your Yrden sign magic. To defeat the kayran, start by hacking off its tentacles. When it concludes, you'll have to battle the kayran.

Your progress will be saved as you get near (a good thing, since the upcoming battle can be difficult) and a cutscene follows.

Those allow you to descend a rough trail that leads to swampland where the kayran waits at the basin.

He'll leave and you can talk to the sorceress to learn that she's really just after ingredients. Once that particular bit of conflict is in the past, you can talk to the sorceress as another scene follows and another party arrives on the scene with information about a reward. Depending on your fortunes, that may be enough to send them away. If you don't want to fight, ask with concern about their friend and then suggest that they should take care of them rather than trying to fight. You can talk to them and try to diffuse the situation. She may have saved their friend's life, but as they see it she didn't do enough to offer aid. Head down along the docks to approach the place where the villagers have surrounded the sorceress.
